I think I'll move onto other stuff...

Hey there! I was 'supposed' to finish my post on all the exciting projects I took on for Little Miss' First Birthday Party, but, sadly, I do not have ANY pictures of the party favors I made :( Aargh! I could smack myself! I guess in all the excitement and anxiety of getting them done, all packed and ready to go I did not stop for one moment and think, 'Hang on, lemme quickly get a few pictures to put on my blog...'. Nope, didn't do that and now I don't have any pictures of the finished projects. Sigh!

But, anyway, let me at least tell you what the goodie-bags had in them -

I bought some notebooks from a local store here and covered them in colourful and pretty scrapbook paper in the theme colours. Then I used the stamp set Quinn's ABCs from Lawn Fawn and stamped each notebook, on the cover, with the respective child's name. It makes for a fun personalised gift.

Then, I made some bag toppers for 4x6 size self sealing clear bags and filled them with some Hershey's Kisses. I might have had a picture of one of those which was an extra one, but husby darling had sneaked it into the car for a 'snack-on-the-go'! Pfft!

And then the rest of the things I filled in were all store-bought little goodies.

Now for some yummy in the tummy for the kids, I  made some savoury corn, zucchini and cheese muffins, loosely based on this recipe. I made some good old frosted cupcakes with sprinkles, colourful (and healthy) fruit skewers. Rest were store bought cookies and nibbles. Oh, yeah I printed out water bottle labels with every child's name. It added a nice touch to the table, apart from being very practical ;)

And then, thanks to Pinterest, I made this colourful pompom bunting to put on Little Miss' high chair, you know, all the small details, etc. But don't know how but it somehow ended being a funky accessory for the birthday girl :)

So now I think I sort of have a closure! That post was hanging on unfinished way too long, plus I have other exciting projects to share :)
And moral of the story for me: Be more organised and take lots of pictures. Always with a blog post in mind :)

Crafting as a Mommy!

Our Little Miss turned One! Gosh, where does time go?? It was only like yesterday when she was born...

First Birthday Party = Loads of crafting fun for me! It's really hard to explain the profound joy I found in making (almost) everything for my baby's special day. I had so much fun and all the while I had a warm, fuzzy feeling in my heart. I thought I'd share all my projects with you lovely crafty people. Hope it inspires you to plan a fun party soon, you know, just like that?

I was quite ambitious when I started planning, which was about a month and a half ago. I wanted to make most of the things myself - the invites, the party hats, favor bags (+the favors), buntings, decorations, the cake, a photo booth, and a whole lot of other things, phew! But somewhere along the way, I decided it was all getting too much, even for me! So I skipped the party hats and...yeah, just the party hats :) Oh and yeah, the photo booth props. There's a whole story behind that, but I'll spare my woes!

I'll split the projects into a couple of posts as I don't want to cram everything in one long, never-ending picture-heavy post!

The theme was 'Sprinkles'. Actually, it ended up being more of a 'Colourful Dots' kind of a thing. Sia (my baby) had a cute onesie that was white and had these little polka dots in orange, fuchsia, turquoise, green and yellow and the inspiration came from there, weird huh? I kind of liked those colours together, and no offense, but I thought the 'fairy' or 'princess' theme had been really, really overdone everywhere, and so I simply picked a colourful, yet girly 'n' pretty theme. (I may have to do a 'princess' party after all, once my little girl is big enough to say she wants one, but until then it will just have to be mommy's choice, ha!)

With these colours in mind and a sort of polka-dot theme happening, I started off with designing the invites. I must say, I heavily relied on my wonderful 'n' efficient Silhouette for most of the party projects. I made a very simple cupcake-shaped card for the invites.

Decorations next. I didn't want to go overboard with the party decorations. I knew I didn't want the usual suspects - balloons and streamers. So I went for tissue paper pom-poms. I know they're already on the verge of being 'too common' these days, but I'd never made them and this was the perfect opportunity. I made them in all the colours of the theme. 

They were so so easy to make and very economical too! The tissue paper packs were about a $1 each! And the colours were easy to find, which made me a very happy mommy :) 

Next I made a 'Happy Birthday' bunting, again using all the colours of the theme. 

We did have some balloons in the end, but we decided to just leave some around on the floor for the kids to pick up and play with. But that's pretty much the decoration bit - simple, colourful and cute. Checked all my boxes :)

For the photo booth, I had a vibrant, fun, colourful backdrop in mind. There were a lot of ideas, including finding a polka-dotted sheet, painting a large frame, etc, but in the end I made these. I kind of don't know what to call them, buntings? paper garlands? I punched out a bunch of circles in all the party colours and went to town with my sewing machine :) They did take me a while to make, but I loved the end result!

Peter Rabbit Themed Party Supplies

A post a day, woo-hoo am I on a roll or what?

Anyway, I just finished an order for a very sweet client and so I thought I'd share my creations with y'all.
It's a Peter Rabbit themed birthday party and the idea was entirely my client's. I simply designed everything based on her chosen theme and I had so much fun all along :)

First up, party invites. Made these on my Silhouette, which is freakin' awesome! Did I not mention that before, hahahaha!

Of course, it had to have a coordinating envelope :) These invites have a little magnet at the back so mommy can slap it on to the fridge and remember to send her little girl/boy to the party, how cute!

Next, these darling little tags. My client wanted them for the favor baskets. I found a bunny silhouette and cut  out a bunch using my Silhouette (heh). Then I pulled out my trusted Cuttlebug and some round punches to put the tags together. Finished off with some ribbon.

Okay, next these table cards. Dessert Tables are becoming very popular at parties. And why not? Who doesn't like candy and cake and cookies and chocolate? Mmmmm sugary bliss :) When she first mentioned these I didn't quite know what they were, but I think these table cards are such a cute idea!

And then, these cutesy flags for straws! Didn't know these either :) Now I do. See other picture for the idea.

In love with Quinn's ABCs!

I just received my Quinn's ABCs stamps from Lawn Fawn and I'm in love :) It is SUCH a great set! So many ways it can be put to use, *fun*fun*fun all the way!
I went over to Lawn Fawn's blog for some inspiration and came across the CAS-ual Fridays Challenge CFC13. Make a long card and keep it CAS, easy :) Click the picture for details.

BIRTHDAY stamped (Quinn's ABCs), cut out and popped on to foam dots. Easy as that! CAS cards are super cool, super fun and super easy. Got to love them!

What little boys like

I just finished whipping up a batch of 'cards for little boys'. It was a recent order from a client, Megan Kate Tregilgas, who owns a charming little shop in Willoughby, Sydney.

I was all smiles when I first visited her store. It's so colourful 'n' pretty. The shop holds an eclectic mix of accessories, stationery, gifts, homeware, baby 'n' kids stuff - you just have to see it for yourself. Most of the products are exclusively crafted by artists around Australia. You'll find The Craft Angel's handmade creations on the shelves too :-) So if you live in Sydney, or if you're visiting, do drop in at the Megan Kate Emporium in Willoughby where some cute 'n' interesting purchase is a sure find :-)                                                               Like this adorable little giraffe we picked up for our little bun in the oven :-)

Okay, so about the cards for little boys...I was immediately thinking of dinosaurs, space crafts and robots :-) And Megan also suggested a 'farm animals theme', which works great for children's cards. So here are some cards I made -

I didn't make any with the space or robot theme. But I did have fun making these simple yet cute cards with a set of super cute graphics -

So much fun! You can see I clearly get very excited about crafting :-)

Cool Shirt Card

I made this card for someone special. It will be on it's way to the reciver soon, so I thought I'd take a couple of pictures and share it with you.

 
Isn't the shirt adorable? I found the tutorial for it on Bird's Cards under 'Video Tutorials'. I think it's a faboulous idea for cards for men. And it's fun to play with, you can go dress up with it, dress down, funky patterns...lots of options.

Mine isn't really perfect...but I guess it's pretty decent for the first try :) Hop on over to the tutorial and have a go. It's fun!

 I just got my heat embossing tool and I'm still a little shaky :) Will get there soon!

Been a little sluggish on Blogger...

Hey everyone! I have a craft stall coming up and have been super busy. But every time I finish making a card, I keep thinking how I'd love to post about it. However, considering the number of things I've been making this past week, I'll have enough to post about for a whole year I guess! I've been sleeping late and have been glued to my chair, hehehe. But I'm enjoying every bit of the rush! It's truly satisfying and oddly calming to be crafting away, I love it. 
Anyways, I thought I'd drop in a quick post and show you one of the cards I made last night...

It's a (snail) digital stamp, but I'm having the hardest time recollecting where I bought it...will update soon. I just thought it needed something fun, so decided to add a little party hat and a cupcake :)

Another Birthday Card

I'm back with another birthday card I made this afternoon. Colouring in that cake has brought in some cake cravings. Darn! Maybe I'll settle for some of my instant 'throw-in-a-buncha-stuff in a bowl' microwave choc pudding instead, hmmm...

 

 

Birthday Card

I must admit, I've been addicted to pink 'n' purple and all colours girly. So, when I sat down to make a card for my cousin, I was kind of lost! I'm sure he wouldn't really be flattered with a pink or purple card :) So I chose to make one in shades of green. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Hope he likes it. I wouldn't know that now would I, if I haven't mailed it to him yet?! *sigh* Will I ever be organised? I wonder...
I have to put in bold on my 'to-do' list and soon :)

A closer look...

Grandpa

Ajja, that's what we fondly call our grandpa. Everyone's favourite, grandchildren and great grandchildren alike. With his loving smile and gentle ways, he is such a calming presence for our large extended family. I have spent so many memorable summer vacations at my grandparents' place in Mangalore and whenever I think of my grandpa, I remember the little orange candies that would mysteriously appear in his hands if we closed our eyes (!), the yummy sweets he used to bring back home for all of us, the stories he used to tell as we drifted into a blissful sleep at night and the medicines he used to give us with his magical touch that would just scare the coughs and sneezes away! I love you Ajja, we all do!

I made this card for his birthday this month.


The sparkly silver and gold flowers don't photograph well...but the card turned out quite well overall.

I made this card for my little niece who turned 7 this month. I found the dainty little fairy in a magazine and had to, had to, had to use it :)

Sketchfest Tuesday

'A stitch in time saves nine'...well I'm not actually referring to the proverb, I just needed a line to brag about my new sewing machine :) Thanks dear husby, it's a great gift.
I'd seen so many beautiful, smart cards with stitching on them and I was all excited to try it. I was very nervous though, and it shows in my card, oopsie! But I'll get there :) The stitch speed was in the least setting as I nervously slid the cardstock through. I figured it's not all that hard, but I definitely need more practice.

Anyways, I made this card for Caardvark's Sketchfest Tuesday. The card isn't great and the picture isn't helping it at all! But I'm still beaming about my sewing machine, so...:)
